Many people are surprised that there are so many opportunities for freshwater fishing on and near the Outer Banks. Because the sounds are fed by inland freshwater rivers, the sounds are more freshwater than saltwater as you move farther away from the ocean. And there are many freshwater lakes within a short drive of the Outer Banks.
